Queensway Cathedral Women's Trip to Ukraine

Many women from Queensway Cathedral church in Toronto have made multiple trips to Ukraine.  Below is an excerpt and video from one of their visits.

We are back from another missions trip to Ukraine … but all of us left a piece of our heart in that great country. A group of nine women from Queensway Cathedral ventured again to Ukraine on May 28 to spend ten days ministering in orphanages and churches. Six of the women were part of the team that traveled in 2006. It was incredible to return and see the fruit of last year’s trip.

On Friday afternoon, we traveled to the city of Lutsk for our weekend ministry. Partnering with Pastor Varemchuk and Pastor Anatoli Prokhar, we hosted a women’s conference on Saturday, June 2. With close to 400 women in attendance, we taught on the theme “Resting in God.” Through song, teaching, testimonies and prayer the women were ministered to. It was a great day as God touched the lives of the women who attended. Sunday’s ministry consisted of a children’s program at a camp for orphans from four regions in Ukraine. PTL! Over 100 children gave their hearts to Jesus that day. We thank God for the privilege of leading them to Him. Pastor Karen preached at Pastor Varemchuk’s church in the morning and preached at Pastor Anatoli’s church in the evening. The weekend ended with Pastor Karen recording two radio segments for Pastor Anatoli’s radio program, which is sponsored by Master’s. The program reaches out to over 3 million people weekly. We thank God for the ministry that was accomplished in Jesus’ name.

On Monday night, we were able to return to one of the downtown churches in Lviv and host a youth service. Sue Brant preached an encouraging message about how God is a God of the second chance. Through the message, drama, testimony and song, the youth experienced God. We know that the youth are the next generation of leaders of Ukraine, and we counted it an honour to be able to minister to them again.

Our trip ended with a return trip to Bukovo Girls Invalid Centre. It was wonderful to be back with the girls of Bukovo. We had an awesome time playing with them and sharing the love of Jesus. We hosted a special “Tea Party” for them. We had brought beautiful dresses that were donated from the women in our church in Toronto. Before the tea party, we provided manicures for each one of the girls and did their make-up. After dressing each one and putting a tiara on each girl, we hosted the most awesome party you have ever seen. We decorated the garden, and everyone received a plateful of cookies and a glass of Tang. Each girl looked like a princess. We were also able to take a picture of each princess and give them a copy before leaving. Everyone looked so beautiful, and we know that God sees each one of them that way when He looks at them. Before we left Bukovo, each girl also received a backpack full of goodies.

A trip like this does not happen because nine women decide to go. It takes a huge team to accomplish it and make it a success. We would like to thank everyone who helped make this trip a success. A special thank you needs to be given to Stan Watrich and Master’s Foundation for doing so much of the groundwork for us. Stan worked tirelessly planning and helping us every step of the way. It was also wonderful to have him accompany us this year. We would also like to thank our church, Queensway Cathedral. With their help and generosity, we were able to ship 103 cartons of materials this year. We shipped toiletries, diapers, clothing, toys and craft materials to those who are in desperate need.

As nine women from Toronto, we counted it an honour to serve the children and women of Ukraine. We know that God was in the midst of everything that happened and everything we did. God used us, but also changed us in the midst of our serving and ministering. Thank you, Jesus!
